Vinyl Pool Liners for In-Ground and Above Ground Pools

The range of styles for above ground and in-ground pool liners is enormous and the choices offered by the manufactures can be quite overwhelming. To make the selection for your (replacement) pool liner easier we put together the following resources:

While the basic purpose of pool liners remains to improve the quality of your pool; modern swimming pool covers and liners are so much more and have become an integral tool in defining the style of your pool and patio garden area as much as a pool fence. The effect that can be achieved in altering the atmosphere of your patio and pool environment can be quite dramatic.

Liner Style and Function

While swimming pool liners obviously have the primary function of protecting your pool and are critical in extending the durability of your pool. Especially above ground pool liners are really beneficial when it comes to protecting your investment, both in durability and time of use.

But with new design patterns emerging all the time, the designs of modern vinyl liners has made the style aspect an equally important part. It has become essentially an easy way to spruce up the pool and patio area, while still retaining all its functionality.

Inground Swimming Pool Liners

In-ground pool liners are typically made from virgin vinyl so they can withstand better adverse weather conditions. Liners for inground pools are generally made custom made, due to the sheer number of different sizes and shapes modern pools are constructed.

Above Ground Swimming Pool Liners

When it comes to selecting the right pool liners for your above ground pool it all depends on the specific pool construction / brand.

Overlap Pool Liners

As the name implies these pool liners simply hang over the above ground pool wall. These liners are purposely made with excess material and commonly for 48 inch to 52 inch pool walls. After the liner is secured with so called pool coping strips the overhanging liner material is simply cut off.

Beaded Pool Liners

The name derives from the channel (called a bead receiver) at the top of the above ground pool wall. The pool liners for this type of pool will have a small lip or groove at the top edge. This groove is designed to snap into the before mentioned channel on the pool wall.

J-Hook / Uni-Beaded Pool Liners

Also named Hung pool Liners, J Hook or J Bead liners are easier to install than your typical beaded liner. Simply slip these pool liners of the top of your above ground pool wall and it will hang straight and securely into your pool. Just like the beaded pool liners the constructions allows for the use of patterns and designs featuring a top tile.

Expandable Pool Liners

As the name says it, these pool liners are designed to stretch and are the typical pool liner of choice for Doughboy Above Ground Pools. These vinyl pool liners will stretch up to a 72 depth, for above ground pools with a deep middle section. Note: Some wrinkling is to be expected with expandable liners. Do not use an expandable liner on a pool not built specifically to use one.
